9gag NSFW
I’ve always leaned more toward Reddit, so I didn’t come into 9gag’s NSFW section with much expectation. It’s one of those places you know exists, people talk about it, but you never really feel pulled toward it. Still, curiosity won, so I took a look just to see what was there and how it actually works. The first thing you hit is the wall. You can’t see anything NSFW without an account, and quick throwaway emails won’t work either. That alone feels strange for a site built on fast scrolling and impulse laughs. It slows everything down before you even get started, and it already puts a bit of friction where there doesn’t need to be any. Once you’re inside, the feed is… all over the place. Some posts are funny, some are awkward, some feel like they wandered in from a completely different corner of the internet. There’s no real rhythm to it. You scroll, you stop, you scroll again. What really breaks the flow, though, is the video player. No skipping, no rewinding, sometimes not even a pause. You either watch it exactly as it plays or you move on, which feels oddly limiting for a modern site. In the end, it’s not terrible, but it’s not especially inviting either. The extra barriers, the clunky playback, and the hit-or-miss content make it hard to settle in. It’s the kind of place you check out once, maybe chuckle once or twice, and then forget about when you go back to platforms that feel smoother and more open.
